Flying Mercury
|
|
Mercury, one of the twelve gods of Olympia can be recognised
by his attributes: his winged feet (he is the messenger of the gods),
the petasus (small, round and flat, winged hat), the caduceus, sort of
magic wand entwined with snakes and winged, which had the power of giving
sleep and bring back concord. The foot of the figure rests on a head of
wind. Jean Boulogne known as Giambologna or Jean de Boulogne Douai, 1529-Florence,
1608 Flying Mercury. |
