The
Walter E. Fernald State School is located in Belmont, Massachusetts
and has a well established Music Therapy program. Music Therapists
have used the Somatron as part of their therapy with a number of clients
at the school. A report from the school indicated that
the primary goals during these therapy sessions were to promote relaxation,
promote socialization and promote object manipulation. Typical activities that occurred
during the Somatron sessions included massages, interacting with the
clients through rocking, clapping and giving the clients small percussive
instruments, and allowing the clients to simply experience the vibrotactile
music by themselves.
