What is the Learning Breakthrough
Program™?
Simply put, Learning
Breakthrough™ is a form of “balance remediation
training”. Clients receive very specialized and
custom-manufactured equipment along with a program of specific
activities to be performed twice daily.
These activities can be done in a clinic setting,
academic setting or in the home and are greatly aided by a DVD
video that shows exactly how to perform each and every
"exercise" required. Balance therapy hinges on the
relationship between the vestibular system (balance), the
cerebellum and several other key functional areas in the brain
and how, by refining the relationship (integration) between
these brain centers (via neuropathways), learning and
cognitive function can be improved at a "root" level. In the
parlance of Occupational Therapists, it is a program of balance, sensory processing and sensory
integration activities designed to help better organize
the way the brain processes information.

Every intentional
movement you make is a direct result of communication between
your brain and the various parts of your physical body. The
fact that you have navigated to this website, clicked the
buttons on the mouse, tapped out specific letters and numbers
on the keyboard and are reading these words is a direct result
of your brain signaling your hands, fingers and eyes to act.
Such psycho-motor skills are so very basic to our existence
and so very fundamental to how we operate in our daily
environment that they are truly taken for granted. This goes a
long way toward explaining why new visitors, upon first
hearing about how the program works, find it hard to associate
our seemingly simple movement activities with improved
learning ability. The Learning Breakthrough Program™ operates on such a
foundational level, that one must really look at the topic
carefully so that its logic is not misconstrued or
underestimated.
One of the most
complex structures known to man is the human brain. A good
deal is known about how it functions, but not everything. One
thing that is known is that "physical activity changes the
brain". Some activities are good for things like reading,
writing, speaking and comprehension and some are not so good.
Just like a piano student improves their ability to play
through correct and frequent practice, cognitive and physical
ability can improve from the correct and frequent performance
of certain activities and exercises.
The activities and
equipment that make up the Learning Breakthrough
Program™ are the result of careful study,
observations, and a trial and error development approach
pioneered by Dr.
Frank Belgau starting in the mid 1960's. Proper and
consistent performance of these activities have a positive and
significant impact on the way the brain controls our ability
to read, write, comprehend, remember, focus and perform
physically and athletically. Improvement in these fundamental
human functions has a positive impact on the way almost anyone
gets along in life. People who suffer from the effects
of various learning (Dyslexia), attention (ADD/ADHD,
Attention Deficit Disorders) and physical differences,
difficulties and disorders tend to see the most dramatic
